The Lakeland Area Arterial Action (LAAA) Study

Location: City of Lakeland, Florida
Client: City of Lakeland

Project Overview

The Lakeland Area Arterial Action (LAAA) Study was a comprehensive, area-wide planning effort focused on improving multimodal mobility, safety, and future transit opportunities across six key corridors within the City of Lakeland. The study included development of corridor action plans for SR 539, US 98, US 92, SR 33, SR 37, and Providence Road, addressing existing and future transportation needs in coordination with local land use and growth objectives.

D Squared Infrastructure provided project management, PD&E study oversight, and public involvement services for this $2.5 million area-wide study, supporting corridor action plan development through technical analysis, forecasting, and stakeholder coordination.

Key Services

Services included project management and PD&E study oversight; development of corridor action plans using extensive land use, travel demand, and multimodal data; preparation of future traffic and travel forecasts; and execution of area-wide macro-, meso-, and micro-simulation analyses to evaluate corridor and network performance. The project also included development of multimodal mobility and safety recommendations such as a new at-grade intersection between US 92 and SR 539, lane repurposing along US 92 and SR 37, innovative intersection treatments at US 98 and Griffin Road, automated shuttle concepts along SR 33, and targeted spot safety improvements throughout the study area. Close coordination with the City of Lakeland supported integration of land use strategies conducive to transit-oriented development and enhanced pedestrian and bicycle mobility. The final phase of the study included a bus rapid transit (BRT) feasibility analysis along US 98 from Bartow to north of I-4, evaluating operational concepts and implementation considerations.
