Project Overview
D Squared Infrastructure provided design project management and roadway safety design services for safety improvements at three locations within FDOT District One. The project focused on improving access management, intersection operations, pedestrian safety, and visibility through targeted roadway and traffic control enhancements at state roadway and trail crossing locations. Improvements included upgraded traffic signal and pedestrian systems, lighting evaluations, and resurfacing within functional intersection areas, all designed in accordance with FDOT standards and guidelines.
Key Services
Services included access management improvements along SR 867, including installation of a 12- to 14-foot grassed median to replace an existing two-way left-turn lane, construction of 2-foot traffic separators at signalized intersections, and milling and resurfacing of left-turn lanes adjacent to the proposed medians and separators. Additional improvements included replacement of impacted traffic signal detection, reconstruction of a right-turn channelizing island to improve the approach angle and sight distance, and analysis of roadway lighting at signalized intersections and crosswalks to verify compliance with illumination criteria. At the US 41 and Crystal Drive intersection, services included removal of existing right-turn channelizing islands, relocation of crosswalks and curb ramps, replacement of existing diagonal span-wire signal supports with a mast arm traffic signal, evaluation and design of intersection lighting to meet horizontal and vertical illumination requirements, and milling and resurfacing of the functional area of the intersection. At the SR 84 and Rich King Memorial Greenway Trail crossing, services included replacing existing rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) with a pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) and designing CCTV camera locations to monitor PHB operations.
