Project Overview

The Lee/ Collier County Safety Improvement Low Bid Design Build project included targeted roadway and intersection improvements throughout Lee County, Florida. The project focused on enhancing safety, improving access management, supporting multimodal connectivity, and improving traffic operations at key roadway and trail crossing locations. Improvements included traffic signal and pedestrian system upgrades, lighting evaluations, resurfacing within functional intersection areas, and other roadway enhancements designed to improve visibility and mobility while meeting FDOT standards and guidelines.

Key Services

The team delivered roadway and traffic design services focused on improving safety, access management, intersection operations, and pedestrian connectivity throughout Lee and Collier Counties. Services included roadway modifications, traffic signal and mast arm design, signing and pavement marking coordination, lighting evaluations, pedestrian safety enhancements, ITS support, and as-built plan review in accordance with FDOT standards and project requirements.

Notable Locations

• SR 867 – Access Management Improvements - Install a 12’ – 14’ grassed median to replace an existing two-way left-turn lane. Install 2’ traffic separators at signalized intersections. Mill and resurface the left turn lanes adjacent to proposed medians and separators. ·Replace existing traffic signal detection when impacted. Replace a right turn channelizing island to revise the approach angle to improve sight distance. Analyze lighting at signalized intersections and crosswalks to ensure criteria is met.

• US 41 at Crystal Drive -US 41 at Crystal Drive – Remove existing right turn channelizing islands and revise crosswalk and curb ramp locations. Remove the existing diagonal span wire signal supports and replace with a mast arm traffic signal. Evaluate intersection lighting levels and design new lighting to meet horizontal and vertical illumination criteria. Mill and resurface the functional area of the intersection.

• SR 84 at Rich King Memorial Greenway Trail Crossing - Replace existing rectangular rapid flashing beacons with a pedestrian hybrid beacon. Design CCTV camera locations to observe the operation of the PHB.
